Royal Visit To The Engineering Business July 2007 HRH The Duke of Gloucester visited The Engineering Business Ltd at their headquarters at Riding Mill in Northumberland yesterday (10 July) as part of a tour organised by the Lord Lieutenant of the county. During the course of his visit he met a large number of the team of 140 currently working for this rapidly expanding company. "It was a great honour to be visited by The Duke," said Dr Tony Trapp, EB's managing director. "Knowing that he trained as an architect we thought he would be interested in the level of technical drawings and planning that go into everything we design and build; and this indeed proved to be the case." "We currently have a £45m order book for 4500 tonnes of innovative offshore equipment for seven major projects. This equipment is primarily for the offshore oil and gas industry particularly related to the handling, installation and trenching of pipe and cables. We also design and build equipment for the marine defence, submarine telecom and offshore renewable energy industries." "We were able to show His Royal Highness examples of some of our most recent and challenging projects, and explain the design process from the very earliest drawings and models right through to the truly colossal end-results. We particularly covered our work on the 'Audacia', a large pipelay vessel being converted in Rotterdam; WaterBridge, our system designed for the safe at-sea transfer of people between vessels and offshore structures; a Pipeline Elevating System (PES) designed for transferring pipelines; and Bowtis, a system for installing 1000 tonne fully assembled offshore wind turbines." "We are extremely grateful to the Lord Lieutenant for ensuring EB was one of the points of call for The Duke during his packed day, we certainly enjoyed meeting him and were greatly encouraged by his interest in our activities." ![]() |
