EB Appoints Business Developer For Renewable Energy February 2007 Ben Webster, an experienced marine engineer, has been appointed Business Developer for Renewable Energy Projects at The Engineering Business (EB) of Riding Mill, Northumberland. "We are delighted that Ben has joined our vibrant and talented team of engineers to take a lead role in the development of our activity in the renewable energy industry," says EB Managing Director, Dr Tony Trapp. "Our innovative BOWTIS (Beatrice Offshore Wind Turbine Installation System), used to great effect in the installation of the first 5MW turbine in the Moray Firth speaks volumes about our commitment to the offshore wind industry. We have a full suite of enabling technologies to further help this rapidly developing industry." Ben is also actively involved in introducing the WaterBridge offshore access system to both the renewables sector and to the wider marine industry: "Safety is of paramount importance," he says. "WaterBridge, which provides a temporary bridge between a vessel and structure, offers ease and safety of access in a range of weather conditions." "It is EB's ability to design and manufacture such innovative solutions that greatly appeals to me. With a background in business development and bringing new products to market as well as a strong marine experience I can see many stimulating years ahead of me!" Ben Webster's background Ben Webster gained a 1st Class Masters degree in Marine Technology at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Completion of his degree saw him becoming project engineer of a 'Guide to Small Craft Regulations' (University of Newcastle upon Tyne in conjunction with Royal Institute of Naval Architects); he then became an Educational Consultant developing and delivering specialist courses for the MTEC@Work programme. Running in parallel he led EU funded research into advanced motion reduction systems for ships. Ben took this from prototype to full commercial offering, initially as Project Manager of IntelliStab and Coordinator of a €2M development project on behalf of 4 project partner companies from UK, Denmark and Spain; and ultimately as a Director of the organisation responsible for commercialisation of an innovative ship stabilisation product. ![]() |
